The Alveary Experience

What is Alveary?
Alveary is a complete and comprehensive curriculum, true to Charlotte Mason's relational model of education and relevant for 21st-century students in homeschools, co-ops, and schools. Through Alveary, we are honored to partner with you in providing children an education which awakens them to delightful living — an education which helps them understand themselves and grows them in their love for God, others, and the world around them.
But what does this mean practically? What will you get if you use one Alveary subject or purchase a membership?

The Alveary Experience
Let’s say you purchase Alveary Geography to beef up what you’re currently doing in your home or school.
"We may believe that a person...is put into this most delightful world for the express purpose of forming ties of intimacy, joy, association, and knowledge with the living and moving things that are therein."
~ Charlotte Mason, Parents & Children p.75
Using the book and supply lists provided, you purchase modeling clay, a few books needed, and an atlas. Then you open your lesson plans and begin teaching your students - you’re gently reminded to help students recall what happened in a previous lesson, given a link (easily accessed via a QR code right in the lesson plan) to a picture of a desert to whet your students appetite as you begin to read about geography in the American Southwest from an engaging narrative (of course the page numbers are provided). After narrating, a discussion question to dive deeper into an aspect of reading might be included. Map questions are also included periodically during the term so students gain familiarity with the region. Occasionally during the year they even create a model of a place they particularly loved. At the end of a term (11 weeks), you use the exam questions provided so students can reflect on the term and tell what they’ve learned.
Free to Focus
In other words, Alveary Geography allows you to offer rich Charlotte Mason lessons to your students with minimal prep beforehand, and the streamlined format gives you the support to remain present and engaged and even customize or tweak things for your student during the actual lesson (or allow them to complete part or all of the lesson independently if your students are older). You are free to focus on your students and enjoy learning together because so much of the prep and planning is done for you. Additionally the lesson plans allow you to learn and implement Charlotte Mason’s methods yourself as you go.
Curriculum for All Subjects and Grades
Alveary provides these rich lesson plans for all subjects and grades.

"First and chiefest is the knowledge of God, to be got at most directly through the Bible; then comes the knowledge of man, to be got through history, literature, art, civics, ethics, biography, the drama, and languages; and lastly, so much knowledge of the universe as shall explain to some extent the phenomena we are familiar with and give a naming acquaintance at any rate with birds and flowers, stars and stones; nor can this knowledge of the universe be carried far in any direction without the ordering of mathematics. The programme is immense and school life is limited."
~Charlotte Mason, Towards a Philosophy of Education p.254
Following Mason’s example which allows maximum flexibility and showcases the beautiful connections between subjects, we study history on a four year rotation. Except for Grade 1, all students study the same historical time period. This allows students to use the lessons appropriate for them each year and provides easy combining options for multi-age home schools or classrooms.

Rescheduling options for sick days or vacations also keep all your lessons dynamically up to date and flexible.
An Ongoing Journey
For over a decade, Alveary has supported educators in providing students a Charlotte Mason education. Because of invaluable member feedback every year, we are able to continue responding to the needs of parents and teachers today to improve our current offerings and add new resources to encourage and equip everyone we have the pleasure of serving. Reach out to us anytime with questions, and we look forward to supporting you any way we can.
"What worked even fifty years ago will not work to-day, and what fulfills our needs to-day will not serve fifty years hence; there is no last word to be said upon education."
