January Thaw
Activities and opportunities to see and enjoy more around you - for yourself and/or your students.

Read (Aloud)
Psalm For January Thaw by Luci Shaw.
Depending on your location, this poem might not describe your winter landscape or experiences, but may you find hope in the poem's lush imagery and the joyful alliteration of words starting with "w." Perhaps consider writing a Psalm for January that captures your place and experience this month.

"Girl with Balloon" by Banksy. Discuss the work with someone else. What strikes you? A mysterious figure in art, Banksy is a widely sought-after anonymous street artist from Bristol, UK, famous for his stencil style. After first creating "Girl With Balloon" on a wall in London as shown here, Banksy has reproduced several other versions of this work, at least one of which has sold for over £1,000,000 (read more here).

Recorders are accessible to everyone--a first grader can successfully learn how to play simple songs and duets. But the recorder can also reach surprising heights of virtuosity. Enjoy this recorder concerto by Vivaldi (here is a second version you might enjoy comparing to the first).
